Saskatoon is the place to experience fine dining, bustling nightlife, beautiful trails and outdoor spaces as well as cultural institutions such as the Mendel Art Gallery, which houses one of the top collections of contemporary and historical art in the country. Saskatoon has a variety of unique retail destinations, offering everything from handmade crafts and house wares, to high-end name brand specialty stores.
Saskatoon has over 400 acres of riverbank trails and parks to explore and is within a short driving distance to an actual boreal forest. Visitors from far and wide delight in the city's beautiful parkland setting. Inviting natural riverbank parks and trails make jogging, biking and casual hikes easy and relaxing, invigorating and refreshing right in the heart of the city. It's no secret that the prairies are a bit chilly come wintertime, but don’t worry, the sub zero temperatures don’t stop us Saskatonians! One of the city's landmarks is the Delta Bessborough Hotel, known to locals as the Bez. Built by the Canadian National Railway, it was among the last railway hotels to be started before the Great Depression of the 1930s brought their era to a close. Although the building was completed in 1932, it did not open its doors until 1935 due to the Depression. The Bessborough and the Mendel Art Gallery are currently the only major structures located on the river side of Spadina Crescent. One of the most frequently circulated photographs depicting Saskatoon is of the hotel framed in one of the arches of the Broadway Bridge.
With over 65 annual events (forty in the summer alone), there is no shortage of things to see and do! The SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival presents the best in live music at indoor and outdoor venues and creates a city-wide festival vibe! Grab some local food at Taste of Saskatchewan where restaurants serve up their favourite in-house dishes, or watch a professionally-acted play along the riverbank by attending Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan.
